Halloween Happenings In Columbia, South Carolina

There are many fun Halloween activities going on in Columbia, South Carolina this fall. Festivals, corn mazes, and pumpkin patches can be enjoyed by the entire family. Here are a few of the most popular Halloween happenings around town.

Celebrate autumn at the Clemson University Sandhill Research and Education Center's Fall Festival, which runs from October 1-29. Younger children will enjoy the corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, and petting zoo. The haunted forest and carnival rides offer a fun time for older youth. The festival is open Tuesday through Saturday, with times and events varying daily. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 4-12. Children age 3 and under are admitted free. Carnival ride tickets are sold separately. The festival site is located at 900 Clemson Road, across from the Village at Sandhill.

Kids ages 12 and under can put on their costumes and enjoy Boo at the Zoo. A memorable evening of fun includes the costume parade, some Creepy Creature Encounters, and the Trick or Treat Trail. This year's event is scheduled for October 14-16 and 22-30 from 6-9pm. Ticket prices are $8. The Riverbanks Zoo is located at 500 Wildlife Parkway.

Halloween activities are a fall tradition at the Clinton Sease Farm in nearby Lexington, South Carolina. Families can enjoy a hayride and pick out the perfect pumpkin at the Pumpkin Patch, which is open through October 30. The corn maze is great fun for families or groups. The corn maze theme for 2011 is knights and dragons, and the maze will be open through November 20. Make sure to bring a flashlight if you plan to do the maze after dark. Younger children may enjoy the kiddie corn maze or the marshmallow maze, as well as the playground and giant slide. The farm's gift shop sells jellies, cider, and fall décor. The Snack Shack offers hot dogs, hamburgers, and snacks. Clinton Sease Farm is open on Fridays from 6-11pm, Saturdays from 10am-11pm, and Sundays from 2-7pm. Corn maze tickets are $10 per person. The farm is located at 404 Old Farm Road in Lexington.

Harmon's Tree Farm, a short drive west of Columbia in Gilbert, South Carolina, offers a Pumpkin Patch and other seasonal activities through Halloween. The Haunted Hayride, Boo House, Black Hole Vortex, and miniature golf are all priced separately. Big Mama's Café serves full meals, sandwiches, and homemade ice cream. Harmon's is located at 3152 Augusta Highway (US 1). Hours are Monday through Friday from 1-6pm, Saturday from 10am-6pm, and Sunday from 1:30-6pm.
